Chamber members hear reports

The January monthly member meeting convened at noon January 28 at Bendillys in Ellsworth to hear reports of the various
committees and to learn more about the world of on line hot topics.
President Peggy Nelson presided over the meeting, which was held in the lower level of Bendillys.
It was reported the membership of the Chamber at 114 and growing. Chamber Assistant Laurie Cox announced a growing
interest in Business After 5. She also indicated that the Chamber is now equipped to accept credit cards to pay for
memberships.
Cox said there will be a special event coming up on Windows 7. The Chamber is being offered free Windows 7 and one to
give away for the right to give a presentation. Microsoft is actively marketing the newest program update.
Sheri Heise gave her report on the upcoming Annual Awards dinner February 4th at the Ellsworth Country Club.
Heise said all is in place and they expect a good turn out.
The Cheese Curd Festival report was given by Raynee Farrell. The contract with the fair committee has been approved for
Friday at 6 pm to Sunday at 6 pm. The Ellsworth Creamery, one of this years major sponsors, will feature a special
presentation including political dignataries, displays, old tyme tractors, old fashioned ice cream and a professional
cheese carving demonstration.
Bill Warner, Director of the Pierce County Economic Development Corporation and member of the Industry Council,
gave a report on the councils activities. Warner said the group has been meeting with school officials setting up
joint efforts. The council is also working on a county wide peer council in which manufacturers can discuss mutual
concerns among themselves. In a lighter moment he asked the Chamber members if anyone would pay extra at the awards
dinner to see Bob Loberg, Paul Bauer and Milt Helmer in a grass skirt. There was no immediate reply.
Linda Hines reported on the new Ellsworth Community Youth Ambassadors program, which replaces the Miss Ellsworth Pageant.
So far her committee has established the name and is moving forward with plans.
Tami Langer gave a report on the upcoming Spring Fling Business Expo set for March 20th at the High School.
A new feature this year will be photos of kids done by Buena Farrell photography. Kris Flock is in charge of
this growing event again his year. The committee is accepting reservations for booths.
In his training report Milt Helmer introduced John Klevin with the Chippewa Valley Technical College who outlined the
upcoming learning opportunities being offered by Chippewa Valley. He announce three Thursdays in April have been booked
at the Ellsworth Masonic Center for a social network marketing seminar. Also he announced a special seminar coming up
on March 11th at the Menomonie Campus on "How to lead the change!" This is a seminar is on how to be pro-active to change,
rather than re-active.
Training Chair Helmer asked the members for feedback on other topics that should be considered in the near future.
In open discussion, Spring Loberg announced she will be walking in the Cancer walk at the River Falls High School on
March 26 and invited everyone to join her. She said the event features an excellent performance by the Helmer Dance
Studios as well as other performances.
Workforce Resource reported they are meeting with businesses on work study programs to give students a real life work
experience. Workforce said federal money will help fund the program.
President Nelson announced a new bidding procedure is being implemented. The Chamber has created a new form to be used
by all committees and submitted to the Chamber office, who will secure bids with priority given to Chamber members.
Nelson also reported that July 5 this year is the time the State goes smoke free in public places. The County issued a
notice they are offering help with businesses to make the transition.
The next meeting of the Chamber members will be Feb 25 and a site has not be determined.
The Hines Auction Service won the Chamber insert for this month.
